Officer Salvatore Rivieri loves the power, and the powerhouse remixes... BALTIMORE (AP) - A police officer shown on a YouTube video berating and roughly handling a skateboarder at the Inner Harbor was suspended on Monday. The incident involving Officer Salvatore Rivieri, a 17-year-old veteran, is the subject of an internal affairs investigation, said Sterling Clifford, a spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department and the mayor's office. "The entire incident raised red flags for all of the members of the command staff who watched the video," Clifford told The (Baltimore) Sun. The video, apparently shot last summer, shows Rivieri putting the youth, 14-year-old Eric Bush, into a headlock and pushing him to the ground. "He was just, like, getting an attitude with me, and said he was going to slap me upside down my face, and I was just going on with it and then he tackled me," Bush told WJZ-TV. At one point on the video, Rivieri said, "Obviously, your parents don't put a foot in your butt quite enough, because you don't understand the meaning of respect. First of all, you better learn how to speak. I'm not 'man.' I'm not 'dude,' I am Officer Rivieri." Rivieri told The Sun on Sunday that he did not know that the incident had been recorded or posted on the Internet. He acknowledged having encounters with skateboarders at the Inner Harbor, where skateboarding is banned, last summer, and told a reporter that he would watch the video on YouTube. After he was suspended on Monday, Rivieri said, "I have no comment. Thank you." Clifford said Monday afternoon that Mayor Sheila Dixon had not seen the video, but that its contents had been described to her and that she was "very displeased." "We have invested a lot of time and energy in having better relations between the community and the police," Clifford said. "The bad behavior of one police officer can jeopardize a lot of hard work."

EDGE OF THE CITY, documentary about muslim pedophiles in Bradford, UK Guest presenter Ritula Shah talks to Anna Hall and Rehna Azim. Edge of the City, a documentary on Bradford's social services, has been screened by Channel 4 on 27th August 2004 after being dropped in May after police warned it could inflame racial tensions at local election time. The 90-minute documentary included allegations that girls were being targeted by predominantly British Asian (Muslim) men. The social workers she spoke to were appalled and frustrated, but also frightened of becoming targets of violence if they spoke out publicly, as were the mothers she spoke to. Hall decided to confront these difficulties and work with two mothers whose anonymity she promised to preserve. What emerges from these women's account, and from the testimony of two girls, one of them currently being groomed, is disturbing. Men from Bradford's Asian community, they claim, are targeting girls from 11 or 12 years up, taking them out in their cars, and giving them alcohol and gifts. The girls are flattered into believing that the men love them. Subsequently, they might be given heroin and crack cocaine and date-rape drugs, raped vaginally and anally, and in some cases, abducted and gang-raped. According to Hall's film, the Keighley social services office has recorded 50 to 70 possible cases of grooming, while the children's charity Barnardo's currently has 15 projects working with young people across the UK who have been abused. But what struck Hall about the cases she found in Bradford and Keighley was that "blatant abuse was going on under people's noses, and no one seemed able to prevent it". Prevention and cure are both difficult. Where the girls are over 13, police are unable to act unless they themselves make a complaint. Many of the girls either do not think they are being abused, or have been so heavily drugged that they cannot recall clearly what has happened, or are intimidated by what will happen to them and their families if they do speak out. Hall's hope was that the film would convey the sense of outrage felt by the victims' families and by social workers, and that this might lead to changes in the law and dedicated policing nationwide. Since August 2003, 11 people - 10 men and one woman, white and Asian - have been charged with offences ranging from rape to indecent assault, witness intimidation, abduction and threats to kill. Three police protection orders have been taken out in relation to girls about whom social services have particular concerns. Bradford social services, together with Barnardo's and other agencies, are educating schoolgirls about the dangers of grooming. While she acknowledges that the authorities have made some progress in tackling the issue, Hall feels that there is still room for improvement: "One of the continual frustrations of the social workers I came across was that year-round policing on this issue is shaky, and interpretation of the law varies locally." One police officer in the film is seen explaining that, unlike burglary, child protection is not a police national target. Hall believes that the Home Office needs to put child protection on its national "strategic priority" list, in order to ensure that police can allocate the necessary resources to the problem. Other factors in police and public reluctance to deal with grooming are more subtle; a senior Bradford child protection officer suggests that the problem is one not of race or culture, but of misogyny; there is the insidious idea that the girls are "trash" and that it is acceptable to use them for sex. "We cannot censor this issue," Hall says. "As a whole society, we need to say that we find these crimes unacceptable and are determined to deal with them."

Intro to the 1986 animated TV series Maple Town, another Japanese series imported translated into English by Saban Entertainment. The English version was book-ended with a live action character called Ms. Maple who would introduce the cartoon and supply the cartoon with its moral lesson. Patti Rabbit's family moves into the peaceful community of Maple Town to open a post office. She makes friends with Bobby Bear, Diana Fox and Johnny Dog; together they foil the schemes of Wilde Wolf and have general adventures in the town. The series comprised of 52 episodes and was created by Toei Animation. It was also accompanied, like many animated shows of the time, by a toy range. Shown on Nickelodeon in the USA. The use of this introduction theme clip/subject is claimed under 'Fair Use' on the grounds of: 1) the clip/subject is used for - and accompanied with - comments on the show. Comments include such things as the producers of the show (as in the production company/s), the year it first aired and how long the series lasted in 'standard length' episodes. Also noted is the availability of subject on high quality, officially licensed media (e.g. DVD). 2a) Inferior quality of video in relation to the quality of the original source. Being at a much lower screen resolution at a high level of compression. In addition to the substantial generation loss caused as a result of the methods used, the process also causes compression artifacts in the form of: loss of image clarity, noise, pixelization, et al. 2b) The inferior nature coupled with the incomplete nature of this recording and the diminished potential value therein of this recording in relation to the original work. 3) The trivial nature of the potential value of subject's introductory theme (hereon referred to as 'intro'), less the actual show that would otherwise follow. On the basis that it is the show - rather than the show's intro - which is, in essence, the primary draw of any 'realistic' potential audience and therefore the main fiscal worth of the subject (relating to audience/market share and sales of merchandising, i.e. DVD and video). 4) Bar the occasional glimpse at an episode's title car, the clip is of the intro and nothing else. The length of the clip is determined by that of subject's intro original length, no more is taken. 5) The poster and host both receive no revenue from this clip's existence on this site.
