The island was originally inhabited by the Ami Taiwanese aborigines, who called it Sanasai. In the 19th century it was known as Samasana Island and the Japanese called it Kasho-to (火燒島). The island is primarily noted as the place of past and current prisons and penal colonies. It first served as an isolated spot and place of exile for political prisoners during the martial law period of Taiwanese history during Kuomintang single-party rule (especially during the White Terror). The prison was later closed, but its interior is not open to the public. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Taiwan, Green Island is nature-lover's paradise. It is sparsely-populated and can be circumnavigated in 30 minutes by scooter. Except for a small town on the southern part of the island the island has been kept free from commercial development. This offers the visitor unspoiled natural beauty both on and offshore. The climate on Green Island is tropical and weather is good year round. The activities here include diving, snorkeling, hiking, salt water hot springs and fishing. There is not a lot of nightlife here, except for the nightly parties down at the hot springs (one of only three sea water hot springs in the world). Coral reefs abound around the island and are easily accessible. Snorkeling and scuba diving excursions are well organized and can be arranged easily. Tropical fish and coral reefs create a spectacular underwater display, even at shallow depths, and the clear, calm waters offer great visibility.

Sorry, I know this isn't what most of you subscribed for, but I thought it was such a rare occasion (happening in Texas) and it was such a pretty day. It happened in just a few hours, and then was nearly completely gone the next day. I also love the song and hope you all like it as well. The snow in Texas almost never looks this nice falling.
