Eartha Kitt golden2golden.net

That's MISS KITT- to you....With an enduring career that has spanned theater, cabaret, television, film and the recording industry, Eartha Kitt has become nothing less than a household name. An international star who has given new meaning to the word "versatility," she is one of only a handful of performers to be nominated twice for both a Tony Award and a Grammy Award as well as for an Emmy. Born on a cotton plantation in South Carolina, Eartha Kitt was given away by her mother and sent to live with an aunt in Harlem at the age of eight. It was in New York that her distinct individuality and flair for show business manifested itself, when at the urging of a friend she auditioned for the famed Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe. She was awarded a position as a featured dancer and vocalist, and before she turned twenty, she had toured with them worldwide. While performing with the Dunham Troupe in Paris, Ms. Kitt was spotted by a nightclub owner who signed her on as a cabaret singer. She gained fame and admirers quickly, including Orson Welles, who called her "the most exciting woman in the world" and signed her to play Helen of Troy in his acclaimed production of "Dr. Faust." Upon her return to the United States, Ms. Kitt played a twenty-week run at the Blue Angel. There she was seen by Leonard Stillman, who included her in "New Faces of 1952." Her legendary performance in "Monotonous," in which she appeared for a year on Broadway, would lead to a national tour and Twentieth Century Fox film by the same name. Broadway stardom led to a recording contract and a succession of best-selling records including "Love For Sale" and "Folk Tales of the Tribes of Africa," for which she received a Grammy nomination. She also published her first autobiography, Thursday's Child," during this period, and returned again to the cabaret scene with runs at The Persian Room, The Empire Room, and London's Talk of the Town, among others. Ms. Kitt then made her return to Broadway in the dramatic play "Mrs. Patterson," for which she received a Tony nomination. Other stage appearances followed, as did film work that included "The Mark of the Hawk" with Sidney Poitier and "Anna Lucasta" with Sammy Davis, Jr. During this period she also became involved in the "Batman" television series in her infamous Catwoman role while continually finding time to make concert appearances. Singing in ten different languages, Ms. Kitt has sung in one hundred countries and was honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame in 1960. In recent years Eartha Kitt has been just as active as ever and has no plans to slow down. In 1994 her performance at the Café Carlyle in New York had star-studded audiences and her album "Back in Business" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1996. She has also made frequent guest appearances on television programs such as "The Nanny" and "New York Undercover," while her world famous voice can be heard on commercials and in New York City taxis advising riders to buckle up.

MLQ: Winning Speech on TV (Episode 1)

This was my first *ever* appearance on Philippines national TV at age 10 (early 1985). This family variety series has a Speech Contest for young kids. I went on to win in this episode, which qualified me to appear in the Monthly semi-finals. This and my subsequent appearance encouraged me to audition for "Bagong Kampeon," (the Philippines' version of Star Search) later that year.

Edelweiss: Lorin and Terry Wey

Edelweiss Terry Wey was born in September 1985 in Bern, Switzerland. After seeing his first and still favourite opera, "Il Trovatore" by G. Verdi, at age 4 he knew that he wanted to become a singer. He joined his first choir, The Berner Kinderchor, at age 6 performing in "La Boheme" in the Bernese City Opera house and other various concerts. At age 7, he joined Knabenchor Roggwil under R. Favre. Here he performed in Mozart's "Magic Flute" in Baden for the first time, followed by concert tours through Italy singing Bach's "St. Matthews Passion" with the Orchestre Symphonique Neuchatelois and performances at the "Goetheanum" and the "Tonhalle" in Zurich. After seeing a TV-documentary on the Vienna Choir Boys he auditioned and was accepted to attend Vienna's preparations-choir. From 1995 until 1998, he was a member of the Schubert choir, one of the four concert choirs of the Vienna Choir Boys performing in more than 300 concerts. He soon became a soloist, eventually singing solos in all four choirs in tours around the world. After leaving the Vienna Choir Boys, he recorded his two private CDs, "Born to sing" and "O Holy Night". Lorin Wey was born on April 3, 1990 in Berne, Switzerland. In 1994, he moved to Vienna, where his older brother, Terry, joined the Vienna Choir Boys. Lorin entered the kindergarten of the Vienna Choir Boys, and continued on to their primary school. As a member of the choir, he sang various masses in the Imperial Chapel, and in Carmen in the Vienna State Opera. After a tour to Australia and New Zealand, he left the choir and enrolled in the Vienna Musikgymnasium (music high school). In 1999, Lorin played the boy Mozart in a Japanese film, with the conductor Charles Dutoit as Father Mozart. http://www.pascalmore.de/CDinfo-e-Classic.htm http://www.tadpolemusic.com/index.htm "Edelweiss" is a Rodgers and Hammerstein song from musical and film The Sound of Music. It is named after the Edelweiss, a white flower found high on Alpine hills. In The Sound of Music, the song is used as a double metaphor: First it is sung by lonely Captain Georg Ritter von Trapp, a widower, as he rediscovers music and a love for his children, in a rebirth similar to the flower's rebirth after the snows of winter recede. Second, it is sung as a defiant statement of Austrian patriotism by the von Trapp family in the face of pressure to join the Third Reich. The great popularity of the song has led many of its audience to believe that it is an Austrian folk song or even the official national anthem.[1] In actuality, Austria's official anthem is "Land der Berge, Land am Strome". The Edelweiss, however, is a popular flower in Austria, and was featured on the 1 Schilling coin and can now be seen on the 2 cent Euro coin. The edelweiss is also worn as a cap device by certain Austrian Army mountain units. The music was written by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and was the final song that the great duo wrote together — Hammerstein would die nine months after the premiere of the musical. Edelweiss, edelweiss, every morning you greet me. Small and white, clean and bright, you look happy to meet me. Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow, bloom and grow forever. Edelweiss, edelweiss, bless my homeland forever. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edelweiss_%28song%29
