A project by KIE Films and Cantilever Productions, White Elephant tells the remarkable story of Miami / Bobby Maduro Stadium - one of South Florida's most unforgettable architectural icons. The year is 1948 and post-war Miami is booming. The "Magic City", with its tropical beaches, year round sunshine, racetracks and resort hotels looks to put itself on the map as a baseball town. Within eight months and with little publicity, the "finest baseball park in the land " magically appears on the corner of NW 10th Avenue and 23rd Street. Unveiled on a dramatic summer evening in 1949, the palatial ballpark won the awe and respect of the baseball world. The Miami Sun Sox christened the new ballpark with a 6-1 victory over the Havana Cubans of the Florida International League. The excitement of that night, however, overshadowed the hidden story of the secretive man who built the stadium and left behind a legacy of political intrigue.
