CBS Phoenix Channel 5 news segment on Covance
On 12-4-06 our local Phoenix CBS afilliate, Channel 5 KPHO, aired a segment on Covance's tuberculosis outbreak in Madison. Citizens Against Covance broke the story to the media in late November, and it was covered by a variety of newspapers, TV stations, and even NPR (National Public Radio). Many citizens are of course protesting the arrival of Covance, which is an animal-testing research lab that wants to build a new facility in Chandler, AZ. She was the first woman Secretary of State and the highest-ranking woman in the history of the United States government. She was a member of the President's Cabinet and National Security Council for eight years, having previously served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997. As a Research Professor of International Affairs and Director of Women in Foreign Service Program at Georgetown University 's School of Foreign Service, she taught international affairs, U.S. foreign policy, Russian foreign policy, and Central and Eastern European politics, and was responsible for initiating programs designed to enhance women's professional opportunities in international affairs.

Chris Freeman was awarded the Royal Society Mullard Medal in February 2007 in recognition of the applied value of his research into the "enzymic latch mechanism" in the context of global carbon sequestration.
